Baoyun Temple, located in the city of Hengshui, Hebei province, was built during the Sui Dynasty (581-618), according to a stone tablet in it, but in fact, there was a temple in the vicinity going back to early Northern and Southern Dynasties (420 - 581). There were around 100 temples in the area covering 20,000 square meters. They attracted many pilgrims in its heyday.
The temple has a 36.5-meter-tall pagoda made of wood and bricks in a pyramidal style and featuring eight sides. The top four stories each have four doors and a different architectural style. Visitors wanting to make it to the top may need a bit of courage since it means walking on the edge of one story when looking for the entrance to the next story.
