Hengshui’s Wuqiang is an ancient county with a history of over 2,200 years; through its long existence, the county has accumulated a noteworthy cultural heritage. Wuqiang gained its fame both home and abroad by the abundant production of new year paintings, and in fact was named by the Ministry of Culture as “The Hometown of Board New Year Paintings”.Wuqiang-style New Year paintings, which are sold in large numbers and are deeply influential in the arts, have extensive themes and cover various categories.
Wuqiang New Year Paintings Museum is a National AAAA-level Tourist Attraction, and is hailed as “The Palace of Art of Chinese Folk Culture”, “The Hometown of Chinese New Year Paintings”, and “The Encyclopedia of Chinese Folk Social Life”.
At the Museum, you can appreciate classic new year paintings from different periods and regions, witness a thousand-year color printing technique, and learn about the special folk customs of northern China. Having visited the Museum’s gallery, you can also print an original Wuqiang-style new year painting by yourself with the help of the museum’s printing masters, and take it home.
