Volunteers in Wuyi county, Hengshui city held a tree planting event on March 10 to mark China’s 39th Arbor Day.
Over 20 volunteers led by Jin Guohui, head of the volunteer association in Wuyi county, came to Taohua village to plant trees.
Arbor Day is a day dedicated to the planting of trees and the promotion of environmental protection. Marked in many countries around the world, the tradition first came to China in 1981, and is now an annual event.
Tree-planting and protecting the environment complements Wuyi county’s economic development goal, set in the 2017 Government Work Report, which stressed that economic development should not be at the expense of the environment.
Jin claimed the event has helped educate local residents about the important role trees play, and that more trees are expected to be planted in the near future to improve the local living environment.
