Construction work on China’s first fabricated steel underground utility tunnel began in Wuyi county, North China’s Hebei province on July 16.
Wuyi is a county administrated by Hengshui city, located in the southeast part of Hebei province. The county covers an area of 830.1 square kilometers.
The utility tunnel project is being constructed by MCC Capital Engineering & Research Incorporation Limited and Hengshui Yitong Pipe Industry Co Ltd. The utility tunnel measures 1.8-km long and is located on the east side of Dongchang Street in Wuyi county.
The whole tunnel can be divided into three compartments--a water-heat compartment, electricity compartment and gas compartment.
The pipelines in the water-heat compartment are for heat, clean water, reclaimed water and dirty water. The electricity compartment contains power and communication cables. Gas pipelines are kept in the dedicated gas compartment.
To ensure the success of the project, an experimental tunnel measuring 50-meters long was built on July 1, 2016.
