Sinopec Group’s oil depot in Hengshui, Hebei province will be moved out of the downtown area of the city to prevent potential safety hazards, Hebei Daily reported.
Hengshui oil depot, which is located in the central area of Hengshui and surrounded by residential communities, was placed on a list of projects with significant safety issues by Hebei Provincial Safety Supervision Working Group in 2015.
In 2017, Hengshui government reached an agreement with the Hengshui branch of Sinopec Group (a very-large petroleum and petrochemical enterprise established in July 1998 from the former China Petrochemical Corporation) to relocate the oil depot.
The new oil depot site is 16 kilometers away from the downtown area of Hengshui and covers an area of around 240 mu (16 hectares).
The earliest possible time construction can start on the new depot is this September, according to Wang Junyi, a staff member from Sinopec Group responsible for work related to the oil depot. Wang also mentioned that the oil depot is scheduled to be put into service in October 2018.
