The 2017 Hengshui Lake International Marathon, which will take place in the city of Hengshui, Hebei province, on Sept 30, have announced that they have invited 26 of the top foreign athletes from six countries to take part in the annual event.
The race has three parts -- the full marathon, half-marathon and mini-marathon (5 kilometers). The full marathon competition is divided into professional and amateur in order to guarantee fairness.
It is estimated that about 15,000 people will participate in the international marathon event, of whom 5,000 will join the full and half marathons, and 10,000 will take part in the mini marathon.
The city’s deputy mayor, Cui Haixia, who was present at a related press conference held on Aug 9, said that the racing course will take runners around the Hengshui Lake and they also hope the pleasant environment will help the contestants attain greater results.
The host site, Hengshui Lake, is a national water conservation scenic spot and national protection zone for aquatic product resources, and is the only national inland natural protection zone with a wetland ecological system.
The zone covers just over 187 square kilometers and has a lake surface of 75 square kilometers, with 200-million cubic meters of water and plays a significant role for the dry, rainless North China Plain.
